OVERVIEW

The United Methodist Wilmington District Committee on Urban Center Ministries (Committee) announces the availability of funds to support urban center ministry within the City of Wilmington.

"Urban Center Ministry" should address one or more of the following areas:

It is for the applicant to explain in the proposal how the use of this grant will benefit the lives of the people and/or institution(s) served by the ministry.

BACKGROUND

The Committee is elected by The United Methodist Wilmington District Conference. It is charged to oversee the distribution of eighty percent (80%) of the income received from the sale of the buildings and ground formerly comprising the Silverbrook United Methodist Church at the corner of Woodlawn and Lancaster Avenues in the City of Wilmington. (The distribution of a greater amount may be authorized by action of the Wilmington District Conference.)

Any applicant who receives a grant must NOT assume that a request for funding in following years will be granted.

EVALUATIONS

A Program request self-evaluation form link is included above. Program evaluations are due within 60 days of the program completion. Interim reports for projects that are not yet completed are due by December 31. Churches/agencies will not be eligible for future grants until program evaluations are received.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants are limited to United Methodist Congregations, Organizations, and Nonprofit Agencies located and operating within the geographic boundaries of the City of Wilmington, Delaware.

We also encourage involvement in urban ministry by suburban UM congregations in partnership with urban UM churches and organizations. In cases where the ministry involves such a partnership, the grant money would be given to the urban church/organization. The program leadership can come from either or both groups in partnership. The planned leadership model must be clearly described in the grant request.

1. An applicant representative must attend a February 26, 2019 pre-submission meeting.
2. Proposals must be approved by Church Council or Organization's Board of Directors.
3. Proposals for funding must be submitted in the format provided in this document.
4. The applicant must explain in the proposal how the use of grant funds will benefit
    the community, congregation(s), organization(s), and/or institution(s) served by proposed ministry.
5. Submit a proposal in Word.doc, Word.docx, or pdf format via an email attachment sent to: ProveyPowell@allstate.com
    on or before April 6, 2019.
6. Proposals received after the due date will not be considered.

Note: Having received one grant does not imply another grant even for a similar proposal.

 

Funding Opportunities

All funds not expended by the end of a grant period must be returned to the Wilmington District Committee on Urban Center Ministries within sixty (60) days of the ending date for that grant year.

If the funds cannot be used as the applicant has proposed and as approved by the Committee, those funds must be returned to the Urban Center Ministries within sixty (60) days of the recipient's determining that it will not use the funds as proposed. And, a report on the use of any funds not returned must be made to the Committee within sixty (60) days of that date.
